I like what I do and have been doing it well for 28 years. I started as an Assistant Loan officer with First Trust Mortgage back in 1982. Interest rates were in the low 20's and high teens. Underwriting took days and sometimes weeks back then. Closings could last for hours. My how times have changed! I have seen our industry go through many dramatic changes. I honestly think the over all products have evolved into a much better financial instrument for the borrower.   As it was back in the 80's it is so much more important for a Loan Officer to know their products and how they are implemented in a borrower's individual situation.  The mortgage world has been turned upside down with laws that Congress passed and has gone into effect as recently as April Fools Day 2011. All Non-Bank Loan officers had to pass a national test and state test as well as a FBI Criminal Background checks in order to be licensed as a loan officer.  I finished in the top 5% of the nation.
